MATADOR SURFBOARDS SINCE 1961

Here at Matador we are very proud of what we do.  Our boards are all Hand Shaped and made in USA!!
We are also super proud to be all EAST COAST.  There is so much talent and history  here and we are lucky so many of you
choose our
boards.  So our focus is you.  We also believe that boards can be made to last without raising prices or taking away proformance.
We try and use only the best materials.  To give you what you have come to expect from us.  The Best Board Around!

Our shapes are a blend of both new and old.  We honor the past and advance the future. The shapes are very tested
again and again.  We have a large collection of surfboards from the 60s 70s and 80s to use as research
for the perfect shapes or must have boards.  It has afforded our owner  Mike a unique opportunity to ride well over a 1000 different boards
over his  30+ years of surfing and to learn what makes a board ride,  really ride,  or not.  It has given him such an appreciation for many types
of  boards and shapes.  Mike started surfing in the late 1970s.  During the mid 1980s he was riding and competing on mostly traditional shortboards like most kids do.   At that time he was also a
sponsored skateboarder for Variflex and then for Santa Cruz, and it showed in his aggressive surf style.  Then searching for a change he started experimenting with anything and everything  he could ride. He even
spent a few years  almost without surfing anything contemporary.  He started competing on classic longboards exclusively and winning multiple contests in the open or modern divisions as well as the classic surf contests.  Feeling a need for change again ,  It was  now time to search for a compromise.

Now we blend some boards and revive other shapes,  there is just something great about so many of those old shapes that need to be ridden again.
Also working in surf retail and as a surf instructor since the 80s has given him the chance to see and hear what people really like and what works
and what works for who.  There are certain boards that people love and certain boards that were easy to ride
and others that just ride and others make you can't wait to surf again.  We at Matador like to use those magic shapes and figure out what makes them
so special.    We never stop trying and testing.

The boards are designed and templated in New Jersey.  With alot of input from the local surf crowd.
The board testing takes place anywhere we can find a wave.
The factory is currently in the Carolinas where we go back and forth to work.
